The St. Benedict's Parish Finance Council guides the preparation of the parish budget, reviews the income and expenditures of that budget regularly, supervises fundraising, advises the pastor regarding buildings, constructions and capital investments, watches over any debt, and helps the pastor ensure that the parish is observing all civil, ecclesial and moral law when it comes to financial matters.

Canon 537 of the Catholic Church's Code of Canon Law says:

"In each parish there is to be a finance council which is governed, in addition to universal law, by norms issued by the diocesan bishop and in which the Christian faithful, selected according to the same norms of law, are to assist the pastor in the administration of the goods of the parish."
